When I declared so boldly that I was going to finish my living-room-slash-sewing-space once and for all, I forgot I was going to have to pack the whole room up and clear it out. Ugh!! Isn’t that just the hardest part ever? Having to figure out where to put all that stuff so that it doesn’t (a) swamp the rest of the house, yet (b) is still accessible is just hard. Haaaaard!!!
Okay, it wasn’t that bad, it just took FOR EVER. But I’m happy to say that not only am I don’t clearing the room but we’ve actually done the first teeny, tiny bit of work! Yay! So, given our current rate of progress, we should be done in, oh, say, 37 years! Woo hoo!!
Kidding. I’m sure we’ll get done sometime soon. This year, maybe. Next year, tops.
The first thing we’ve done is added some little supports for the shelves so they can be truly built in and permanent, and not on the little metal support peg things.
I just feel like the shelves are more secure this way, plus I think it looks more charming. I’ve wanted to do this to the shelves ever since I saw Marianne’s post years ago about how she turned an IKEA Billy shelf into a built-in. It’s fantastic!!
Meanwhile, I’ve got lots of portable projects to keep me busy.
Here’s what I was wondering about. How long does it take regular, ordinary people to finish projects? How long does it take you? Will you tell me? Because I don’t know that many home improvement/decorating/DIY enthusiasts in real life so I actually don’t know. And I think, for my own sanity, I should not look to Blog Land for that answer. You know what I mean. I love blogs, as you know, but sometimes they’re not a great place to look when you are trying to figure out what a realistic, normal, time-frame is for something. I’m just saying.
So, please, tell me. Have you done up a whole room? How long did it take you?
