Thinking About Dream Houses

I've got dream houses on the brain. You know what I mean? It's winter, it's dreary, and I'm daydreaming about cute cottages with picket fences.
This is my old house. It didn't look like that when I bought it--it was beige and blah and the yard was weeds and there wasn't a fence. I finished it fixing it up and then we moved. I miss it sometimes. Not all of it, there were things I definitely didn't love, but I do miss the cute yellow front and the picket fence. And the flowers. I love flowers.
Someday I'd like to have a cute yellow house with a picket fence again. I'd love it to be on some property, but I'd settle for a really big yard. I'm not too particular. I just know that I want it to be in a pretty setting (or one with potential) and have charm (or potential). And it will definitely have a picket fence, whether it's there or I put it in.
A yellow or cream cottage with white trim, a picket fence, shutters and window boxes with a brick pathway and pink roses. That's what I want.
What about your dream house? What do you want?

What a charming home. Love the picket fence and roses. I just found your blog and read your "about me" section. I can so relate. I'm having trouble finding my decorating style. There are so many styles I like that I have a hard time putting them together in a way that doesn't look "mix-match." I live in an old farm house that needs lots of work. I've lived here 10 years and there's still SO much to do. Well... I'm off to read your blog. Stop by and see me at mine if you'd like.

Oh, wow! I can see why you miss that house. It's so charming! I had a yellow house with white trim and a front porch when we were first married and I would love to have one like that again. Maybe after the kids are grown (it wasn't big enough for a family of four, really).

My dream house is any farmhouse with a big wrap around front porch filled with old wicker and a porch swing. Although I do love that yellow house with the picket fence.

Angela,
So glad you are back. How are the kids and hubbie?
I have many dream houses in my mind. All are older or just plain old and all are charming with plenty of architectural detail in and out and all have lovely gardens to spend time reading in and cutting gardens for many fresh flowers and herbs to cook with year round. Quite a tall order and I have learned to love where I am now and not covet a dream house, at least not *too* much.

So glad to see you here again today! I want a creamy yellow house with shutters, picket fence and pretty garden. I have the shutters so all I need is paint and a gardener! ~Adrienne~

I've missed your posts, you have a great eye for renovating houses.
My dream is a period home with a bay window and an open staircase. I want a garden full of blue bells, snowdrops and crocuses.

How lovely, Angela! And what is the beautiful plant growing over the front windows just under the roofline? Your post brightened this dreary winter day for me, thank you!

Yes! A yellow house with white trim. Maybe a white farmhouse with black trim and a red door? Just as long as it's got a porch. Pink roses, yes! Red geraniums, blue hydreanga and some herbs. A formal dining room and a big kitchen with white cabinets and big windows. A space for my kids to play and a space for hubby and I to craft (he says "do hobbies" cause he is so macho!) A barn that my hubby can use as a garage for all the cars he wants someday. A perfect flow for entertaining and a great back yard. Sigh...

Angela,
I am also glad you are back. I loved your yellow house and was sad to see you left it but I'm sure your "new" house will be every bit as cute when you're finished with it. I don't mind my house, I just wish I had money to fix a little this, a little that. My dream house would definitely include a fireplace, a cozy place to read, lots of natural light, and an inviting kitchen. And the more garden area, the better!

I think English Cottages are just magical. We were graced with a 100 year old Victorian farmhouse and it is beginning to change my mind on what is my dream house. BTW- Your house is so cute!!!!!

I love your pictures! Especially on such a gray, gloomy day here. My house is almost my dream house - it's peach with white trim and lots of roses in the back. In order to be perfect, I would want to have no more deer in the neighborhood. They eat everything in the front yard so I can't have any pretty flowers there.
