Master Bed Refresh

I've been a little depressed about my house lately. It's still undergoing major transformations, and I haven't been particularly good about keeping some rooms off-limits from the insanity. It's one of those things I know I am supposed to do, but I get too excited and jump in anyway and pretty soon the whole house is a construction zone.
So, I was feeling all sorry for myself recently about living in shambles, when I came down the hallway and saw my bed, looking nice but kind of blah and I just got inspired. I rooted around my fabric collection and found this pretty floral I'd been saving and made these ruffled shams using my pillow cover tutorial.
Even better, while I was digging through boxes looking for the fabric, I found this cute embroidered pillow cover I bought on eBay, like, ten years ago. I had forgotten it even existed! Even better, I just happened to have the right size pillow to go in it! Voila! Instant bed refresh.
So now it's much prettier, and when I saw it today I thought, you know, I have a lot to be thankful for, and my bed is one of those things. It's not perfect or anything, but it has a certain charm and it makes me happy. And I need to remember that.
What about you? What about your home makes me happy?

I think this is a cross we DIY-ers must bear, periodic bouts of frustration and doubt. My husband and I do this, too, and take turns buoying each other up by reminding the other of the condition of the house when we bought it. Sometimes you just have to run through an itemized list of all the things you've accomplished.
When I'm feeling particularly hopeless, I spend a few minutes basking in the glow of a few of our favorite finished projects. I'll stand in front of my beloved stove in our renovated kitchen and run my hands over her chrome and enamel. I'll wiggle my bare toes on the soft, smooth, hardwood floor we installed in our new bedroom. And, lately, I sit with a blissful smile on my face in front of a roaring fire in our new woodstove in the living room. Sometimes you just have to refocus and remind yourself.
It will get there. You know it will. You just need a reminder.

I just got a new chair and ottoman for my bedroom. Came from Craig's list. Picked it up at a very expensive home and the former owner told me it had never been sit in. Well it has now! Perfect reading spot. It will need a nice slip cover...fabric is a bit over the top.

I love that fabric too! I've used your pillow tutorial before and I love it, I'm planning to make lots more pillows with it. Oh, and I'm glad you didn't paint your headboard. I think it's really pretty how it is.

Girl, that is a really pretty bed. Way to spruce up a spot for a retreat when you can't take it anymore. I was just pouring coffee looking at my kitchen and wondering if our trim will ever be put up around our remodeled kitchen. hmmmmm, at least we can laugh about it along with a sigh or 2. lol

Loved it... my headboard is curved too. I have plates on the
other side of room. Was thinking of moving it to the bed because
its hard to decorate above the curved headboard. Maybe
I should do what you did. Its beautiful.

Angela, you've always inspired me and we've always been working on something you and I. I like your pillowcover. What a timely find. I think if Spring wasn't around the corner I'd go nuts. I need to get gardening. I missed you so I came by to say hi!

Oh I know how you feel! My house is so far from what I envision.
But the other day I sewed together a table cloth and that seemed to brighten my house and my heart!

Hey there - I just love your attitude about refusing to let your ranch keep you from cottage style. Good for you. And I love both 'new' pillows. That's the one thing I love about handmade, it never seems to go out of style. You bought that pillow cover ten years ago, and it's still beautiful! I'm trying to give more handmade gifts this year. Who wouldn't love an embroidered pillow!

In case you missed it, romance is what Valentine’s Day is all about. Every year on the 14th of February, couples and loved ones from all over the world share take time out to share the joy and love that they have for each other.

I can completely empathize with you. My fiance and I purchased a home a few months ago and we are remodeling everything! It is currently a long way off from the vision I have. I keep telling myself Rome was not built in a day. What makes me feel good about my house is the vision I have for it. I just began tilling the bare ground in preparation for my cottage garden.
