Now You See It, Now You Don't

Do you remember the stone planter box that's built onto our fireplace wall that I showed you in the dining room makeover kickoff post? It was full of really old planting soil, which was full of random bits that had been dropped in there over the years.
Like broken glass, for example.
Between that and the sticking out into the walkway... you know, where your body has to go... and being very hard and sharp and pointy... it was a problem. Basically if you were to walk straight through that part of the house, you'd run into the planter box.
Which is kind of a problem when you're two feet tall.
I hated that thing.
I removed my "safety device" (a strategically placed laundry basket) and took a picture so you could see what it looks like.
At least... this is what it looked like this morning. (Mwah ah ahahahahaha!)

Now you see it...

Now you don't.

Oh, yes I did!

We got really lucky, too. You might not be able to tell, but in this picture you can just see how the concrete base for this was leveled exactly at the height of the subflooring, which means we can put new flooring right over it and it will match up perfectly.

So, we have to patch that hole in the floor, but I am so happy. I have a nice wide walkway past the fireplace. No ugly eyesore planter thing filled with hazards.

It's beautiful.

Tomorrow I'll show you how I did it.
Nothing like kicking off a project with some good demo. Torn anything up lately?

I see why you ripped that planter out!
Setting a goal with Thanksgiving as the target date was a great idea! Can't wait to see the final unveiling!

You are such a brave woman! It's a great improvement. Do you jump with joy every time you look at this new walking space?

Wow! That really does open that space up. I'm not sure if I would have been that brave to just tear something out like that, but it is going to look great!
