My Toddler Client, Part Two
Last we heard from our intrepid designer (that's me), she was desperately trying to communicate with a young client... a very young client (that'd be my two-year-old daughter) in the design of her room.
I don't know why sometimes when I blog I feel like a television episode. Ha.
You remember I had done this fun thing with my daughter where I gave her a pile of fabrics and she choose a palette for her room, right? Well, then I still needed to figure out exactly how to use the colors in the room. All go on the bedding? Some on the walls? Some on the furniture? What? I decided to use the same technique. I found some rooms on the InterWebz with similar palettes and showed them to Baby Girl.
Interestingly, since I was working with her chosen palette, none of the rooms were my original inspiration rooms. I think this is a great demonstration of why I am not a professional. Ha!
The first room I found is this adorable room that Melissa from The Polkadot Chair did for her daughter. Isn't it cute? (Thank you so very much to the lovely ladies who gave me their generous permission to use their photos on my blog. Notes are with each photo.)
Baby Girl really liked the bird on the pillow and she pointed to it over and over. (We all like birds on it around here!) I adore the green paint on the shelves and the pretty pink on the walls.
Next I found this cheery room that Lindsay from The Cottage Home did for her daughters. I think it does a great job of capturing Baby Girl's palette but with a cheery punch.
Also, don't you just love the embroidery hoop art above the beds? It's the same feel as my beloved plates, but without the breakable, heavy things hanging on a wall above your precious one's head factor.
And then, finally, just as I was about to go to Baby Girl with just two pictures, I saw this amazing room that Stephanie from Stephmodo posted as a part of her Real Life Homes series. It made my jaw drop. Seriously. (In case you're wondering, yes, the rest of the house is that fantastic.)
I love how it feels charming and cozy yet is very bright and airy. That's hard to do I think. I also love how there is all the colors of the palette, yet they are all very subtle and serene. I think my favorite bits are the ruffly lilac duvets and the vintage flower paintings. To die for.
So, just like before with the fabrics, I gave the pictures to Baby Girl to see what she did.
Again, to my surprise, she was swift and sure. She picked one picture out of the stack and wouldn't let it go. I was so surprised by her choice (and her speed) that I actually had her do it twice more just to be sure! (Bad mama!)

Like I said, I was surprised! I love this room, but I thought for sure she'd never pick it. But she did and she was sure!
The best part is that without even realizing it, I'm halfway there! I already have a tall wainscoting and new chunky trim, which will be white. I also have a curved headboard just slightly taller than the wainscoting (totally unplanned) and a can of Heirloom White waiting in the garage. Plus a whole bolt of sheer white fabric and piles of white flat sheets to use for curtains and bedding. All of it has been stockpiled in my house, waiting for a project. (We'll discuss my upcoming appearance on Hoarders in another post... ahem).
So -- what's next? Next I think I'll do a full project list and then... set 'em up and knock 'em down. I need to get this room done because next up is a big push to fix up my dining room before Thanksgiving (more on that soon).

I love the yellow walls with embroidery hoops! Might have to do something like this for my craft room!

love the room baby girl picked. i think i would pick that one too. I'm not sure why but i love the picture grouping. it's kind of random and strange but works so well.
How do you keep your picture file organized? Does it live on your computer? I just started using pintrest for mine.

I'll bet you can guess pretty quick which is my favorite room. When you mentioned the "color" palette for the airy room my first thought was "there's color in there?!" cause when I look it all just looks white to me. When I squint my eyes I can see that there's color in there. It's a very pretty room.

Hi Angela! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I really appreciated your comment. The paint color is Martha Stewart's "Artesian Well". At first, it was a little bright for me. But after living with the color for awhile, I now really like it.
