Chandelier Find

Found Chandelier

Speaking of thrifting, I found this chandelier at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in my town and couldn't leave without it. It's not vintage, but it has a nice cottage style and it's in perfect condition. I'm either going to put it over the soon-to-be-window-seat in the family room or use it in my bedroom over my bed. Decisions, decisions.

Chandelier at Home Depot

But that's not the best part. The best part is that I was in Home Depot (aka Home Deposit) the other day, and as I was cutting through the lighting section I glanced up and saw this. Yes, it's the same chandelier. The exact same. I couldn't quite see the tag so I went around to the other side, and...

Price at Home Depot

Goodness gracious, my thrifted $25 chandelier costs $105.98 new. $105.98! Man, I love thrifting!

So, I have to ask. With all this thrifting talk going on, have any of you tried it that hadn't before?

~Angela :-)

P.S. If you haven't checked out your local ReStore, you should. I'm not the only one finding awesome chandeliers there. Don't believe me? Go see this post from Kim at Dear Daisy Cottage.

Way to go Angela! Awesome find! Vintage or not, I think it's a keeper and will look great in either location.

You have really peaked my interest in thrifting. Unfortunately, the thrift stores here just seem to be really picked over and full of "old underwear" smell. The consignment shops are neat, but overpriced in my opinion. I do stumble on some amazing bargains in regular stores though--75% off at times--so that's ALMOST as good as a thrift store, right :)?!

Anna:

What a wonderful find!! I really enjoy your site and was wondering what happened to you. I figured you were working on a big project. But I'm glad you are back and hope all goes well with the family stuff. I can relate. About your post today..my town is have bulk item pick up!!! I saw some neat stuff out at the curb today that I want to go back and get!!! I can not believe what people throw away. I love that quilt behind the chandelier. Love the colors in it.

You are, Dear Angela, the queen of thrifting. My latest finds have been buckles and buttons.

Very cool find! I'm going to the Habitat store in Atlanta tomorrow - hopefully I'll find some good stuff!

Angela, you are on a fantastic roll with your thrifting finds. This is beautiful and would look perfect in a bedroom. Great!

Wow, what a great deal! It's beautiful!

Donna:

Love it! Lucky you!

Jen:

Gorgeous! What a bargain. I think I might have to mosie on over to a thrift store this week. Wish I could find a beautiful light fixture. I sure need some around this place!

Lucky you! Wow, you seem to find the BEST STUFF. I came out of the womb thrifting so I can't say that you inspired me on that level. Just yesterday I found a dress form. I've been shopping on Ebay forever but my budget just couldn't handle the prices. My form was only $7. When thrifting it pays to be patient.

I never used to like chandeliers but I love the shape and shine of them now as I mature. I think they are adorable and yours is a great find.

Hi Angela,

Love the quilt in the picture. I have a few throw pillows that would match! There is something about chandeliers that is just so romantic. I have 2 in my kitchen, 2 in my bedroom, 1 in the living room and will be on the hunt for in our family room, and eventually one in the craft room. Can you tell I love them?

Lynne Laura

Wow...I checked the link and there is a ReStore near me. Will be heading there soon! Love your new chandelier.

You already know I'm a bonafide thrifter, Angela! What a great find. I too have found some great light fixtures out there & have replaced most of mine for a small amount of money. It pays to shop around for thos things.

Here's to more bargains this year!

Rhoda

What a chandelier! Even if it´s not vintage...it´s gorgeous... great in the bedroom of course... romantic... I´m so glad you stopped by...I have really been a bit worried...understood that something was wrong... About my "blueberry temptation" :)... You wonder about how much butter...it depends on how much mixture you need for the pies... I use to take about 200 gram...and then moderate how much flour I take... instead of cocos you can take crushed cornflakes...or oats... I use to make some and then put it in the freezer...so I have something to the coffee when you come and visit me... :)

~Annie

way to go Angela, I love when you find a deal!! Who wants to pay full price if they do not have to!!

Ellen

Thank you so much for telling us about Restore! I thought I KNEW of all good thrift stores in my area and had no idea this existed! I've already checked and there are two within a 25 mile radius! I can't wait to pass the news on!

Rose:

Angela,
Woohooo! You done good my friend, I love it, can't wait to see where it ends up. Lucky girl!
Hugs,
Rose

Hi Angela Your chandelier is great! It will be fun to see what you decide to do with it. Every time I've been to our local habitat store they've just had a bunch of junk, but I stop by every once in awhile just to check. Hope you're doing well. Rhondi xo

lindenhaus:

Oh, what a pretty find! You are finding such lovely things for your cottage in the making. I love the sparkle of chandeliers!

What a great find Angela! Now you have a lovely chandelier for a fraction of the original price. Well done you!

Great finds. Our local Restore is far, but I might have to make the trip!
Jen R

I'm posting again, because I link to them through you and it's not as far as I thought, so I think I am going to take the drive early next week. Thanks for reminding me it's there and the extra info! Having the link was awesome and so helpful!

Wow! You do find some great stuff.
I couldn't have passed up that chandelier either.

Gotta love thrift stores!

Kimberly :)

Now THAT is a find! I have been chandelier shopping for months and haven't found anything! This is me- jealous. :-)

June:

Your thrifted chandelier is awesome and the price difference is amazing--great job! I love thrifting, so many treasures for so much less. Two things I've found that I thought were good deals was a complete patio set that was going to be trashed and I got it for free. I completely refinished and purchased new cushions--now it looks brand new. The other find was a set of 6 heavy metal chairs I special ordered to be made during a trip to Mexico for $25 each and they delivered via a truck to my house here in Tucson. The total bill was $300 (including delivery). The next week a catalog arrived in the mail with the exact same chairs selling for $325 each. I danced with joy at my savings.

sam:

Thanks for the information on the ReStore. I found one not too very far away and look forward to checking it out.

Hi Angela,

Love your gorgeous blog! Just discovered your blog from Lisa's and absolutely glad I did.

Congratulations on your chandelier find. Lucky you. I've been searching for two vintage chandeliers via flea markets and antique stores. A bit taken aback at prices exceeding into the thousand-dollar range. Yikes!

However, I did find a brand new one I might purchase at Home Depot for one hundred dollars. Albeit the one I want looks smaller then the picture you show. But what the heck it may be new but the vintage style well appease my tastes for now.

In regards to your question about new to thrifting...I'm fairly new and progressing to addictive behavior, ha,ha. Immensly enjoying the adventure. Just wish I had friends who felt the same so we could all go flea market venturing together. Would be great fun while eating in cafes, sharing stories. Presently, my husband tags along but he is actually beginning to enjoy it!

Will return often to your blog.

Cheers!

Hi Angela...Boy, you do thrift style sooo well!! I so wish I could go to one of those Restore shops, sadly we don't have much like it here...

Send me a line sometime...
Linda

Thanks for the tip. I've never heard of a restore before. I will be checking ours out this weekend. Hope I get as lucky as you did!
God bless.
Terri

WONDERFUL FIND!! I love it!
Way to go!!! A perfect chandy indeed!

xo,
Kim

I love all your wonderful treasures! I look for thrift store goodies too. Or flea market, salvage etc. Anything that will work for me. It is always fun to see something at a store for a lot more money(-: I love your windows too.

What a great find! I also found my chandelier at our local Habitat store. I say local, but it's over an hour away. It was well worth the trip, which I combined with a stop at a salvage grocery store and some other good places. I got mine for $20, and it was priced well over $100 too. There were at least 30 to choose from at the time. So, if I find myself in need of one in the future, I'll defintely head back there.

Jennifer

Hi Angela,
I just ran across your blog site. I am a veteran thrifter myself. Now I have my girls hooked! My oldest daughter and I meet there and race to see who gets the best deals. Of course, if I have something she really wants I give it to her.
I really like your chandelier. What a bargain too! Come visit my blogspot when you get the chance! Take a peek at my chandelier. Don't forget to say hello. I will put you on my favorites list.
Bye for now!
Kelly

Cece:

I've been keeping my eye out for chandeliers lately. That one was a total score! And I clicked on the link to the photo of your bed. It is so perfectly romantic!

Theresa N:

Great find, I love it. I want a new one for my livingroom.

I have started a group on flickr for people to share their thrifted finds from around the world. It would be great if you could join and add this picture to the group!
