How To Make Whipped Cream

Whipped Cream

Whipped cream is an essential element in many desserts, and one of the easiest. Making whipped cream at home is a great choice for many reasons: it's tastier, cheaper and has no preservatives, corn syrup or other chemicals, and best of all, is done in five minutes.

How To Whip Cream

Simply put 1 cup of whipping cream and 2 Tablespoons sugar in a clean mixing bowl, and whip. You may also want to add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla or other flavoring, depending on how you plan to use the whipped cream.

If you don't have a stand mixer, a hand-held mixer will do, or if you don't have any mixer, you can whip the cream by hand using a wire whisk.

Cream Whipped to Soft Peaks

If your recipe asks for cream whipped to "soft peaks," your whipped cream is done when it leaves soft, rounded mounds when the whisk is pulled out.

Cream Whipped to Stiff Peaks

If your recipe doesn't specify a stiffness, or if you are making the whipped cream to top pie or another dessert, you will want very stiff whipped cream. It should be stiff enough so that the whisk leaves a network of canyons in the cream as it moves through. Do watch the cream closely at this stage, however; if it whips too long, you will end up with butter.

Whipped Cream On Beater

Whipped cream breaks down, or "separates," again quickly, so plan to use it within a day or two and keep it covered and refrigerated in the meantime.

Wasn't that easy? Now you have a good supply of cream for topping pie, pudding or even a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

Yum!

I really like the idea of making this from scratch as opposed to "store bought". This is really easy too, which is right up my alley-lol.

I'll definitely try this next week to go with my mother in law's apple pie.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday!

That pink bowl of whipped cream is just dreamy in and of itself! Yum!

Thank you for that, Angela!! I have always wanted to learn how to make whipped cream and now I can!!
Oh, and at your advice about the Restore, I finally went, but wasn't overly impressed. Yours is far better. I assume like most places, it is hit or miss. I did get a vintage tablecloth, rod finials, and a few other little things for only $3, so it wasn't a total miss!!

Ok, maybe it's because I haven't had dinner yet, but your first photo of the whipped cream, made my salivate like crazy. I'm going to have to do this myself sometime very soon! :)
