Snow!

Snow on Garden Gate

Snowy Garden Art

You've probably heard that we're having unusual amounts of cold and snowy weather here in the Pacific Northwest. It's been snowstorm after snowstorm for, what, 8 days now? I know for a lot of you out there, this is business as usual. But for us, it's completely and utterly astounding.

Snow Covered Trees

When I woke up yesterday morning, the snow had fallen so heavy and thick it covered everything and flocked all the trees. I've never seen anything like it.

Usually if we get a bad storm, (which we only do every few years), we get ice. Not this. It's beautiful.
Sunrise Over Snowy Arbor

I got up early because I wanted to get pictures before anyone else came out. Lucky for me, this time of year the sun rises late and doesn't peek over the neighboring trees until 9:00 a.m. or so.

Sunshine this time of year is also unusual. Normally it's just grey and rainy for months on end. So to see both is such a treat.
Snowy Street in Sunlight

Honestly, unless I move to some other part of the country, I may never see scenes like this again. And also, honestly, as beautiful as it is, this morning I was ready to have it melt and go back to my year-round gardening.
Snowing On My Street

Except guess what it's doing today? Again? That's right. Unbelievable!

Supposedly it'll all be gone by Christmas. Which is a little ironic. But in the meantime, my son and I invented some new lyrics for a familiar winter-time song:

The weather outside is frightful,
but the cookies so delightful
As long as we've got some dough,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Well the cookies are nice and warm,
Fresh and gooey and hot,
I could go outside and play
but then again, maybe not!

And so on...

The sugar kicks in at this point, and we get a little random with the lyrics, but you get the idea.

Happy Holidays!

~Angela :-)

Gorgeous photos. No matter how long I've lived in snow country, I still think it's beautiful. I love it, when I'm driving at night and the brush on the side of the road sparkles in the headlight. You did a nice job with the pics, thanks for sharing.

Hi Angela -
Being not too far from you I agree with your thoughts about enough is enough! My cousin and her husband just moved here from California. This morning I told her I think God arranged this weather just for them - when it's gone, they won't complain about the rain! In the meantime, stay dry, safe and warm. Hang onto your hat, my friend, I hear we're in for worse before this is over! Hope they are wrong.

These are some very gorgeous pictures you shot here ! I'm afraid we are a little snow weary at the moment so not a lot of enthusiasm right now .. and we have months to get by yet.
But .. I loved these pictures ! Well done !

Great photos, Angela! I love pretty snow pics, but I'm with you, as long as it melts fast. That really IS a pretty snow. Enjoy while you have it. I forget if you are in WA or OR? I'll have to see if you have it posted.

WOnderful photo's. I wish we could have a little dusting of snow, but I am afraid it is not in the forecast. Thanks for posting your pictures they are wonderful.

We are loving the snow too! Except for when we have to go out and drive in it. Yesterday early-it was sooo magical how the sun made the snow sparkle! Great photo Angela!

Wow! You did get a lot of snow there. We got some earlier this week but it's all gone now.

I love that picture at the top of the post. It's beautiful. Have a great weekend, Angela! -Julia :-)

Hi Angela :)

Even after living in a place that gets snow for the past three years, I'm always amazed when it happens. Enjoy it while it's there :)

I don't always comment, but I visit a lot and I wanted to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Angela,

Enjoy your snow while it lasts. We have over a foot of snow here, all within the last 3 days, and it will be the first White Christmas in years. Of course by Thursday it will probably be dirty, gray snow, but you get the picture. I just hope my son gets here from Seattle to make his Mom happy.

Merry Christmas,

Janet@ Housepeepers

Sue:

Wowzers! Beautiful winter scenes. Thank you so much for sharing.

Do I need to tell you how jealous I am? So jealous.

Your photos are gorgeous.

I am swooning over your garden entry gate.

Hello Angela, it is a fable landscape! beautiful photos! brava!!! Andreina

I've seen flocked wall paper but trees? The trees are so lovely!

Merry Christmas!

Enjoy it while it lasts, Angela -we have family in Seattle and they're also snapping photos like mad. Your gate would be wonderful at any season but is particularly lovely in that picture...but the one that made me smile is the metal plant support-thing. The snow makes it look like a sheep!

Annie at the Transplantable Rose

Wow! That is a lot of snow. You took some great pictures. It is lovely. I sure don't miss it though, LOL! :)

Beautiful, what are you complaining about?!? LOL!! We, in central Canada, have way less snow, but it has been COLD here. I only moved here from your area a couple of months ago. Your snow should be gone soon, right? Enjoy your white Christmas. Hugs, Cynthia PS Thank you for your wonderful blog, I enjoy it.

Your pictures of the snow are so much better than mine! It really was extraordinary.

I love your snow photos. Especially the one of the gate open. Just beautiful!!! I hope you thaw out soon.
Happy New Year to you!!
