Master Bedroom Bedding: Ready for Color
Thank you everyone for your sweet thoughts and wishes on my last post. It's so sweet of you all and I really appreciate it. And I am very excited to start working on the nursery as soon as I find out girl or boy. In the meantime, I'm feeling a need to nest in my master bedroom.
I haven't done much with my bedroom since we moved in, and as a default I've been using all white bedding this year. It's fresh and clean, but it's leaving me feeling a little drab.
So I did some yardwork for my Mom to raise a little cash, went on a fabric hunting expedition and found this great combination of florals. I brought home a couple of samples and draped them over the bed to see how they would look. The darker one would be the quilt and the lighter one ruffly shams.
I love how they make the Battenburg shams look. I thought I was tired of them, but next to the florals they look so pretty I fell in love with them again. And the best part is that when I went back, the fabric was 35% off, so by using stuff from my stash and getting fabric on sale, the whole project will only cost $100.
For those of you who are curious, I did also finally decide to refinish the bed. I know it's gorgeous and expensive oak. (Well, it wasn't to me, I got it secondhand. But it was when it was new.) But I want a lighter look. I mocked up a couple of options. They're rough, but basically I'm deciding between a weathered pickled finish or painted white and antiqued. Plus I'm also going to paint the room a purplish gray color. As always, opinions are welcome! :-)
I suppose it's a little nuts to work on my bedroom when I have a little one on the way, but I just know how much it will mean to me, and the baby will love the room they get no matter what! How's that for practical?

i love the fabrics you've chosen!they remind me of the Mary Rose collections. the colored walls sound great, and i would choose the white bedstead. Happy nesting!

It's good to hear from you and to see your plans for your room. The fabric is wonderful - can't wait to see the finished room. I like the white headboard but the pickled look is good, too. Glad I don't have to make the decision! Take care of yourself - don't work too hard. ~Adrienne~

Hey Ang! I vote white and think it's a great idea to make your bedroom a priority. A happy mommy makes a happy baby.

First things first...Congratulations!!! How excited you must be. And how fun to be able to decorate a beautiful nursery.
As far as the bed, I think I like the white distressed paint.
Take care!
Kimberly :)

I would probably leave the bed, which is odd for me because I just spent last weekend painting three tables white! But, if you're going to paint the bed I'd do the white. Also, even though it's your room, if memory serves, the baby will be spending a lot of time in there as well! Congratulations, I'll be looking forward to seeing the nursery, esp if it's a girl! I love your son's room. In fact, I'd love to see a better picture of the quilt on his bed someday, if you feel like posting one!

Thanks for sharing the happy news. And by all means make your bedroom as beautiful as you can. Creating a sweet space that makes you happy is as important as shopping for a crib and nursery basics.

I believe it was on Little Green Notebook that the blogger painted a lovely bed bright sunny yellow. It looks amazing. AH-mazing.
Just throwing in another idea. lol

I vote for the antiqued white. I think the pickled might be a little much up against purplish gray walls.
Love the fabric you picked for the bedding! It will add a whole new character to your bed!

First and foremost--congrats on the baby! Secondly, never apologize--even to yourself--about what you are "called" to work on. The body, mind and spirit is not to be managed but embraced! You've been tagged to work on your bedroom because that's exactly what you need to do! So go for it with abandon! No fears about the other rooms, they all get their turn in good time. Best of luck to you--great start on the master!

Great blog.
Congrats on your little bundle. ;)How exciting!
As for the headboard, I say White all the way! I would love a headboard someday, but It's definitely not in our budget right now. I would definitely do all revamping now, otherwise you will end up like us, two kids and four years later, with a boring master bedroom. We just finished our master bedroom finally. I posted on it just recently. It's funny how every other room in the house seems to take priority. Good Luck! Looks like what you have planned will be quite lovely.
Blessings,
Molly

I bought a beautiful oak bed with lots of detail and against everbody's opionion I painted it white and love it. Would do it again in a heart beat. Brought out all the detail in the wood and lighten up the room. J
