I just had to do a quick little post here and show you what I found at the thrift store yesterday. I had never intended to collect Christmas dishes, and probably still won’t. I’m proud to say that the reason is just a matter of space, not because I’m embarrassed anymore. Though it’s true this would have definitely fallen in the “not allowed” category if I was still listening to the very snotty inner critic that I used to have.

Either way, when I saw this perfect Spode Christmas Tree plate, still in it’s box, on the shelf at the local Goodwill for $1.99, I just had to bring it home. I hung it up inside a gilt frame (a .25 garage sale find), and it’s on display with my little snow globe collection. The whole thing makes a little vignette now, and I’ll show that tomorrow.

My version of a mantel this year!

This particular plate isn’t old. I’m not sure when it was made, but it has a UPC code on the box, so it’s definitely modern. If I had to guess… maybe the ’90s? I don’t know why I think that. Just a guess.

The original pattern was first released in 1938, though, and I just adore the vintage-style graphics that speak of that era, with the little toys and ornaments on the tree.

Oh, they’re so cute, I probably will pick up more if I find them thrifting, you never know. You can buy Spode Christmas Tree dishes and things at* but I try never to buy things new, so if they don’t come to me from thrifting, I’ll have to assume that it wasn’t meant to be.

Have you found anything thrifting that changed your mind?

    • Thank you! I was pretty surprised, honestly! I have never gone looking for any plates like this, but I recognized it immediately as soon as I saw it. If I find more, great, if not, great, too. Thanks for stopping by! ~Angela~

  2. What a great idea! I love these plates but never wanted to get a whole set. Just one showcased like that is perfect!

    • Thanks, Ashley! I’m with you — one is plenty! I don’t have room to store a whole set of holiday dishes — I’d never fit the rest of my stuff in my kitchen! 🙂 ~Angela~
